The 2000/2001 academic year is in full swing and the
brothers of the Delta Phi Chapter of the Alpha Tau
Omega Fraternity at Occidental College have truly
embarked on a successful journey towards True Merit.
The uniqueness and integrity of the Brothers offers
the entire Occidental Community with a wide range of
leadership and community service. We, as a
brotherhood, are excited about the positive strides
taken in the community, on campus, and in the physical
structure of the chapter house. With this momentum,
the year should continue to bring about success at
every turn.

Congratulations to the brothers of Delta Phi who
brought home the best football season at Oxy in seven
years. Chad Karthauser, Carl Kocis, Berto Segura and
Chris Bishop anchored one of the best offensive lines
in the conference. In the offensive backfield, father
and son combination Kevin Danni and Jake Slinker
powered the Occidental running game. On defense,
brothers Nick Montera, Brian McCartney, and punter
Korey Janse engineered a turnover ratio in the top 25
nationally.

On a more academic level, Brothers Jeremy Stupin and
James Ewing both scored in the top 10% on the MCAT.
Brother Chris Killmar was named President of the Gamma
Sigma Alpha Honor Society, along with Rob Kopiec and
James Ewing also representing Delta Phi. Brother
Brooks Vasconcellos represented the college and the
fraternity at a National Security and Strategic Arms
Conference in Washington D.C. Great job Taus!

In the community, the brothers have continually lended
a helping hand to those in need. The fourth annual
"Trick or Treat on Greek Street," was a huge success
and the neighborhood children once again had the time
of their lives playing games and getting candy. Delta
Phi was also represented at the AIDS Walk and the Walk
for Diabetes. In addition to these accolades, the
brothers helped out at St. Ignatious Elementary school
with their annual Jog-a-thon. At Delta Phi, we teach
the powerful words of St. Francis that "It is in
giving that we receive."

On Nov. 17, 2000 Delta Phi will be welcoming The Hon.
Jack F. Kemp '57 back to campus for a speech in Thorne
Hall. All alumni are encouraged to attend. The event
will be from 9:30am to 10:30pm followed by lunch at
the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
