“Callaway Vineyards Tour and Temecula Wine Tasting with Ralph Amey, Ph.D.”

Join the Occidental Business Associates and Ralph Amey, Professor of Chemistry and noted wine expert and author, as we tour Callaway Vineyards in Temecula, learn about the business of wine making, and enjoy a day of wine tasting.  

RALPH AMEY teaches wine appreciation classes, leads wine tours in California and Mexico, and regularly writes articles on all aspects of wine. A certified wine educator (CWE) and member of the Society of Wine Educators (SWE) for 20 years, Ralph Amey is a founding member of the Southern California Chapter of SWE, and is its current president.  He also holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and teaches General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry I (Thermodynamics), and Materials Chemistry at Occidental College.

TICKETS: $60 OBA Member. $75 non-OBA Member. Ticket price includes bus transportation, gourmet winery lunch, guided tour of Callaway, souvenir wine glass, wine tasting, and 20% discount at Callaway Vineyards. The tour will include visits to two other wineries to be announced in the Temecula area. Wine tasting participants must be 21 years of age.

BOOK FOR SALE! Professor Amey's latest book, Wines of Baja California: Touring and Tasting Mexico's Undiscovered Treasures, will be available for purchase. It is the first comprehensive book on Mexican wines published in English. A historical prologue is provided by Dr. Enrique Ferro. Each winery is described in an "Essentials" section listing location, contacts, size, production and winemaker. History, winemaker notes and vineyard and fermentation techniques are included along with tasting notes and suggested food matches. Chapters on Wine Terms, Grapes of Baja, Wine Festivals and Events assist the visitor, as well as sections on where to eat, rest and read more about this exciting region; plus how to get there and what to see in the wine producing valleys. Ideal for any wine enthusiast or armchair traveler. Cost: $22.00 per book (includes tax). Pre-ordered books will be available for pick-up at event registration.

Registration - 9:00 a.m., Oxy Fountain

Bus Departs - 9:15 a.m., Oxy Fountain

Bus Returns - Between 6 and 7 p.m., Oxy Fountain

 

Cost:

$60 per OBA member and guest

$75 non-members.
