Occidental Business Associates cordially invite you to attend a dinner honoring
Patricia Sueltz '75, sixth annual recipient of OBA's Occidental College Alumni Businessperson of the Year Award.
Patricia C. Sueltz currently
serves as Executive Vice President of Sun Services at Sun Microsystems. In this
role, Mrs. Sueltz is responsible for developing and delivering in integrated
portfolio of consulting, educational and support services to customers worldwide
as key elements in Sun's network computing solutions. As head of Sun Services,
she directs over 10,000 employees worldwide and drives about 1/3 of Sun's total
revenue...last year about $3.6 billion. Previously, Pat served as Executive
Vice President of Sun's Software Systems Group. In that capacity, she oversaw
more than 5,000 employees and was responsible for Sun's growing software
portfolio that includes Java technologies, the Solaris Operating System, and
Sun's StarOffice office productivity suite.
Following graduation from Occidental College with a BA in Theology, Mrs. Sueltz
attended one year of seminary at Claremont School of Theology under a
Rockefeller Fellowship for nontraditional thought in theology. She then started
her career as an Installation Foreman at Pacific Telephone. By June of 1979 she
was the manager of the Information Technology Lab at IBM. Her career at IBM
spanned 21 years and various roles including communications software,
programming, headquarters staff, transactions, and messaging systems. In 1993
she became technical assistant to former IBM Chairman Lou Gerstner.
She later started IBM's Java practice which has grown to include the efforts of
more than 4,000 worldwide. Collaborations with Sun's CEO Scott McNealy
eventually led to her move to Sun Microsystems and her current successes. Mrs.
Sueltz was recently featured as #35 on Fortune Magazine's "50 Most Powerful
Women in Business" and has also been honored by Feminine Fortunes Magazine in
its 2003 list of recognized leaders in technology
